Pink Pearl

Name

The name Lucia is the feminine form of Lucius, an Italian name derived from the Latin word lux. Derivative versions of the name like Lucy and Luce were used in England around the 12th century onwards. The name Lucia itself means 'light.'

Lucia's last name, Nanami (七海), translates out to 'seven oceans.' If you were to try and extrapolate a complete translation of her name, Nanami Lucia would translate out as 'Light of the Seven Oceans.' Considering Lucia's personality and the fact she is the leader/main character, this name rather suits her well.

Name debate?

Yes, even this harmless little show has its fair share of debates. This is probably one of the mildest ones, plus there is a sound conclusion that is universally accepted by the fandom.

Because Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch is a Japanese animated TV series, Lucia's name is written as 'Ruchia' (るちあ). This could imply Lucia should be pronounced as 'Luchia' - L's tend to get written as R's because the L sound does not exist in Japanese. However, Lucia's name is written in hiragana and not katakana, the latter being used for foreign names (like names with L's in them). That eliminates Luchia being a valid transliteration, right?

Only problem is, 'Ruchia' is clearly not what her name was intended to me. Firstly, Ruchia on its own does not have a meaning. Secondly, numerous pieces of Pichi Pichi Pitch merchandise clearly write out her name as 'Lucia' in English. In conclusion, 'Lucia' is considered the most correct and sound transliteration.

Kabalarian

To 'complete' this section, I have included Kablarian Philosophy's name analysis. I used 'Lucia' for this analysis (see 'Name Debate' for more info).

Although the name LUCIA creates the urge to be both logical and technical, we emphasize that it causes a blunt expression that alienates others. This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the elimination system, and tension or accidents to the head.

The name of LUCIA indicates you are a diligent and persevering worker who enjoys a routine occupation where you can do a job well and finish what you start. You like to work at your own speed, without pressure, as you prefer to take your time to work step by step in your own way. You could become frustrated and thwarted in your efforts if too many changes or disruptions occur.

I agree with analysis for the most part. Lucia is a person who can handle a job well, but it takes quite a lot of time for her. She does not live on the fast lane of live; however, she consistently has quite a few tasks on her shoulders. Working at her own speed does not put her in too much trouble, though a heavy workload can fluster. With that said, I do not think Lucia has a logical or technical persona - she is just someone who has goals she wants to complete.
